Port throws weight behind renewable energy and efficiency

Tim James, formerly a project manager with Natural Power Consultants, has been appointed the Port’s first ever energy development manager, with responsibility for attracting green energy technologies – designed, manufactured and serviced in Pembrokeshire – to join oil and gas as a major part of the Haven’s trade.

Tim has considerable experience in this area. He was a key member of the management team for the largest onshore wind farm in England and Wales, the Pen y Cymoedd Wind Energy project, which has an anticipated local economic impact of over £1 billion. He says: “I’m thrilled to be progressing renewable energy development from Pembrokeshire for an organisation whose profits are used to stimulate the local economy and create jobs.”

Second local recruit, Faye Ryan, joins the engineering division as procurement manager – a role aimed at maximising savings in purchase and supply.  Faye brings valuable experience from her previous roles at Dyfed Powys Police, the Welsh Assembly Government and Pembrokeshire College.

Andrew Brown, the Port’s engineering director, says both positions will support the organisation in delivering its business strategy over the coming years.

“Tim’s appointment is a natural progression for the Port; it demonstrates our capabilities in being able to not only accommodate new businesses in this sector, but also providing engineering support through our existing expertise.  The region is becoming a hub for such technologies and we are well placed to play a major part in these developments.”

“Faye’s experience in both the local market and in her understanding of the European procurement regulations will be of significant benefit and should drive efficiencies throughout all the Port’s business activities.”
