ABP Hull invests £1 million in new paper handling equipment

The terminal has seen Finnish imports increase by 40 per cent since its opening in 2000 and now handles over 70 per cent of all forest products at the port.

The fleet upgrade programme includes a brand new Terberg RT283 terminal tractor unit together with seven 8-tonne clamp trucks, making a total investment of £1 million.

Danny Carmichael, ABP Operations Manager Finland Terminal, explains: “Since the Finland Terminal began operations in 2000 the average weight of paper reels handled has increased, which means we have had to upgrade our handling equipment accordingly.

“The model of tractor chosen has extra stability when moving rolltrailers, which easily accommodates the increased weight of the products. This third machine supplements two RT282 models that were purchased previously and it is anticipated that a fourth unit will join the fleet at the end of the year.”

The investment reflects the continued success of paper handling at the Port of Hull, ensuring the port remains one of the main import facilities for both news print and magazine print-quality paper.
