GPA Board approves rail extension

The Georgia Ports Authority Board approved a USD 6.5 million, 6,000-foot extension of the Mason Intermodal Container Transfer Facility (ICTF) today. The initiative is designed to expand capacity, improve efficiencies and reduce costs for customers. Construction on the project will begin in January and, when complete, the Garden City terminal will feature a combined 46,921 linear feet of track between two on-site rail yards serving Class I rail providers CSX and Norfolk Southern.

Cargotec signs co-operation agreement with ST Kinetics

Cargotec has signed a co-operation agreement with Singapore Technologies Kinetics Ltd (ST Kinetics) to develop automated port equipment. The parties have agreed to begin co-operation by developing applications and related systems for container terminal customers. This agreement is a continuation of Cargotec and ST Kinetics' earlier successful co-operation.

Dover goes into premiership in Carbon Reduction Performance League Table

The Port of Dover has outperformed all other UK Ports in the first mandatory Government scheme aimed at improving energy efficiency and cutting emissions in large public and private sector companies in the UK.  Furthermore, the Port achieved a place in the top 3% of all of the 2000+ organisations which participated.

South Carolina Ports Board approves nearly USD1 million in projects

Break-bulk volume at South Carolina's seaports in Charleston and Georgetown continued its uptick, with a 121% increase last month compared to the same month last year. The Port of Charleston's non-container segment rose 58%, with 66,540 tonnes handled in October versus 42,163 tonnes during the same month in 2010.

Halterm Container Terminal selects Tideworks Technology

Halterm Container Terminal Limited has selected Tideworks Technology Inc, a leading provider of full-service terminal management and planning software solutions, for its comprehensive suite of terminal operating system (TOS) solutions for implementation at its facility in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Tideworks' TOS, which will replace Halterm's current system, is scheduled to go live in 2012.

Investment in the Rotterdam-Genoa transport corridor

The Swiss Ministry of Transport and the Swiss Embassy in the Netherlands have addressed the development of the Rotterdam-Genoa transport corridor which will see an investment of EUR 25 billion in the coming years, funded mostly by Switzerland. The Main European cargo transport corridor has an annual traffic volume of approximately 700 million tonnes of goods transported by rail, with half of that being the total of north-south volume.

Container throughput on Yangtze River up 23.3%

In the first 10 months of this year, container throughput on the Yangtze River increased by 23.2% to 9.14 million TEU compared to the same period last year.
