The signing took place during the Netherlands Economic Mission to Turkey in the presence of Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Minister for Foreign Trade Lilianne Ploumen. The new Kabatas Seagull Transportation Hub is to be located on the western shore of the Bosporus in Istanbul and will provide transfer facilities for millions of travellers. The multi modal transportation hub will connect ferry, metro, tram, bus and regular traffic.
Royal HaskoningDHV will be providing geotechnical, environmental and maritime consultancy and engineering services to the architect’s project team. The architect was assigned by the Municipality of Istanbul to design a new landmark for this unique location. The view from the water side is intended to represent a flying seagull, which will be visible to millions of tourist and commercial vessels passing the Bosporus every year.
The project will include an underpass for vehicles, a metro station, a tram station as well as ferry docks. From here the ferry will leave for destinations such the Princes’ Islands. The project site is located on the Bosporus shore, an earthquake zone. Therefore, the design will also account for measures to limit the associated risks.
