The Port of Virginia handled 178,584 TEUs in May, an increase of 12.6 percent when compared with totals from May 2011.

Austrian crane manufacturer Hans Kuenz GmbH books order for Automated Stacking Cranes and Intermodal Container Cranes for APM Terminals new Maasvlakte II Terminal. After a comprehensive and thorough bidding process over several months APM Terminals has chosen crane technology from Kuenz for their new Maasvlakte II site in Rotterdam.

After the successful introduction of two new Tier 4i/Stage IIIB compliant Hyster empty container handlers at the Port of Antwerp, Zuidnatie has made further investments in seven new low emission, high capacity Hyster forklift trucks.

HTS, a leader in the Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and computer vision systems market, has announced that the US Patent and Trademark Office has awarded the company  a patent for its SeeUTR system  that  provides a method for identifying a container and a transporting vehicle under a crane and reporting both the container ID and vehicle ID to a centralized data system.

South Africa's Transnet National Ports Authority has announced the appointment of Herbert Msagala as General Manager: Port Operations effective June 2012. APM Terminals has signed a lease agreement for a new world headquarters at the De Kroon office building in The Hague. The company will lease 3,500 m² office space for an initial duration of ten years, with occupancy set for Q4 2012.

After a year-long ban on the export of logs to China was relaxed in May, The Port of Virginia is back in the log business and has its first export container booked for departure in mid-June.
