The fully automatic and electric stacking cranes are supplied by the German subsidiary of Terex (USA) in Dusseldorf. The parts and ASCs are partly delivered by road and partly by barge. In August 2013, the first AGVs are expected and the first quay cranes will be delivered in October 2013.
“We are now looking forward to the autumn of 2014 when the first container will be handled at our terminal. It’s a great challenge being the first on Maasvlakte 2 to proceed with the implementation of this challenging project. This terminal will be in the field of electric vehicles the most modern and environmentally friendly of its kind. We are confident that this terminal from 2015 will deliver an important contribution to the further development of Rotterdam as Mainport for Europe,” said Ronald Lugthart, Managing Director of RWG.
“With the delivery of these parts we started, exactly as planned, the construction of the equipment at our terminal and we are on track to handle the first commercial ships in the autumn of 2014,” said Frank Keizer, Project Director of RWG.
Rotterdam World Gateway BV is an international consortium consisting of four global container shipping companies, APL (Singapore), MOL (Japan), HMM (South Korea) and CMA-CGM (France) and terminal operator DP World (Dubai). Rotterdam World Gateway will be operational by the end of 2014 and will have an annual terminal capacity of 2.35 million TEU.
