Vote of confidence for Port of Charleston

Colliers International Chief Economist and thought leader K C Conway highlighted the South Carolina Ports Authority as an emerging dominant port in the East during a conference call focusing on bright spots and blind spots for the nation's ports. Conway's comments were discussed on a Stifel Financial Corporation conference call during which Conway emphasised that state support of port funding needs will determine which ports dominate the industry in the era of post-Panamax ships.

Georgia Ports wins Communication Award

The Georgia Ports Authority has captured the top communications award presented by the American Association of Port Authorities, a trade association representing the entire Western Hemisphere. Robert Morris, GPA's senior director of Corporate Communications, accepted the Dan Maynard Communications Award for Overall Excellence last Thursday in Orlando, Florida, USA.

Massive boost for Rotterdam LNG hub

The Port of Rotterdam Authority is delighted that two European subsidy applications relating to LNG have been granted. This means that the European Union supports the development of a Rotterdam LNG hub. It involves a subsidy of EURO 40 million for LNG infrastructure for the Rhine-Main-Danube area and a EURO 34 million subsidy for the LNG break-bulk terminals in Gothenburg and Rotterdam. Together, the projects will create a logistics chain for LNG; the first in Europe.

Kalmar straddle carriers boost productivity at Port of Tacoma, Washington

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has gained an order to supply five Kalmar Classic straddle carriers to the Port of Tacoma, Washington, USA. The order was signed in August 2013 and the units are scheduled for delivery in the first quarter 2014.The Port of Tacoma has become one of the largest container ports in North America, handling 1.7 million containers in 2012.
