The port authority attributed the strong growth to the launch of direct non-stop container shipping services between Wuhan and Shanghai and a new route from Sichuan’s Luzhou port via Wuhan to Taiwan. In addition other factors were increased shipping service frequency, enhanced reliability and improved port operations.
This year, Wuhan New Port is planning to inaugurate a container shipping service to Vietnam and Thailand, and create the Wuhan Airport Comprehensive Bonded Zone.
General cargo throughput in the port grew 16% to 8.55m tonnes in January.
