Kalmar's Gloria goes to the Netherlands

Alpherium has an annual throughput capacity of 116,000 TEU and 60,000m2 of storage space making it one of the larger inland terminals in the Netherlands.A daily container barge service connects the terminal to and from the ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp

Alpherium is equipped with two gantry cranes and can accommodate four barges at the same time. The terminal relieves the roads in South Holland annually from 7.5 million truck kilometers and aspirations are to increase this to 10 million kilometers per year.

Director Diederik Antvelink of Alpherium explained that recent growth caused them to replace an existing Kalmar reachstacker by ‘Gloria’ to achieve more efficiency and better reliablility.

The terminal opened in 2010 and the investment was made from its own cash flow.

Gloria is the fifth generation Kalmar reachstacker since its introduction in 1985. Compared to the existing DRF Kalmar reachstackers Gloria has a completely new EGO cabin with for example increased visibility of 90%, specially designed joystick and ergonomically designed, laterally adjustable handlebars, control console and pedals.

In addition, there is much improved in the field of electronics (including redundant CAN -bus system, improved connections and temperature-dependent cooling) and hydraulic (load dependent variable hydraulic pumps).

Gloria comes standard with a 24 month warranty or 4,000 operating hours. Maintenance is easier and cheaper through longer maintenance intervals and improved electronic fault signal and interfaces.

Options include 3 Eco-modes (fuel savings up to 20%), start-stop system (fuel savings up to 10%), tire pressure monitoring and a front axle with independently rotating front wheels for a big improvement in tire wear. All of these improvements will lead to more comfort for the driver and lower costs per operating hour plus reduced tire wear.
