AECOM to pay USD4 billion for URS Corp

US-based engineering design firm AECOM Technology Corp has announced it would pay about USD4 billion to acquire fellow engineering and construction services firm URS Corp. Terms were unanimously approved by both of the California-based companies, and the acquisition is expected to close in October. The combined company will have about USD19 billion in annual sales and more than 95,000 employees.

New Autogate system for Liverpool Port access

UK-based Peel Ports Group has committed USD9 million to introduce advanced infrastructure and AutoGates technology as part of its ongoing investment at the Port of Liverpool. With the USD500 million deep-water Liverpool 2 expansion due to be open next year, this latest development is set to strengthen the port-side logistics required to support increased cargo volume.

Harmonised e-reporting procedures from June 2015

A new era for global maritime is to be unveiled on June 2015. The European Commission adopted on 25 June the report on the functioning of the Reporting Formalities Directive (Directive 2010/65). The Directive aims to ensure that by June 2015, vessels entering in or departing from EU ports will provide required information electronically via one single entry point – the National Single Window.
