Bottlenecks in Rotterdam affect inland waterway transports

For several weeks now, the increasing bottlenecks in the processing of inland vessels in Rotterdam have led to additional costs for Transbox.

Ever since the beginning of this year, barges in Rotterdam have had to contend with long waiting times, and now many barges are having to wait for up to 72 hours to be processed. To continue to keep to its own schedules, Transbox has increasingly had to charter additional tonnage, because its own vessels were still waiting to be processed.

“In order to be able to continue to offer this product, we will be levying a surcharge of 6 Euro per TEU for full and empty containers, for all transports to Rotterdam, commencing with departures on 30 March 2015”, says Marcel Hulsker, Managing Director of Transbox. “This decision stands until the situation improves again. We will continue to keep a close watch on the situation in Rotterdam. We would ask our customers to book as early as possible to enable us to plan more efficiently.”
