NWSA’s container volumes reach 347,278 TEUs in September

Import and export year-to-date volumes grew 1% and 6.9%, respectively. In September, the NWSA’s overall container volumes reached 347,278 TEUs, a 7.1% decrease from September 2018. International imports were down 13.8%, while exports were down 3.6% for the month. Importers continue to work down excess inventory from front-loading of shipments in advance of tariffs earlier this year. Domestic container volumes in September increased 1.6% over September 2018. Alaska’s and Hawaii’s year-to-date volumes were up 5.7% and 2.4%, respectively. Nov. 1, is the last day to submit proposals for cargo operations at Terminal 46, a 50-acre deep-water marine facility in Seattle. The successful proposal will align with and support our goal of growing cargo volumes and creating family-wage jobs in the Puget Sound region while diversifying the gateway’s overall cargo portfolio. Other cargo highlights: Breakbulk cargo volumes were up 4.6% year to date to 200,503 metric tons. NWSA auto volumes year to date were 118,848 units, up 18.1%.
