In September 2024 the Port of Los Angeles, California, handled a record 954,706 TEUs – up 27% compared to the same period in 2023. It marked the close of the port’s biggest quarter ever, with 2.85 million TEUs processed over the last three months. Nine months into 2024, the Port of Los Angeles is 18 per cent ahead of schedule.
“Just as impressive as these new records is the fact that we managed all this cargo with skill and efficiency,” said Gene Seroka, Port of Los Angeles Executive Director. “None of this would be possible without the incredible efforts of our longshore workers, truckers, terminal and rail operators, and other supply chain partners. Their hard work has allowed us to achieve all these records and still be able to handle additional volume.”
In September 2024 the port saw loaded imports totalling to 497,803 TEUs – a 26% increase over the previous year. Loaded exports came in at 114,702 TEUs – a 5% decline from 2023.
A total of 342,201 empty containers were processed – a 45% increase from 2023. Overall, the port handled a total of 7.58 million TEUs in the first nine months of 2024 – an increase of 18% compared to the same period in the previous year.
In August, the port of Los Angeles handled a near-record 960,597 TEUs – up 16% compared to the same period in the previous year.
