Gateway Terminals India (GTI), operated by APM Terminals Mumbai, has become the first terminal at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) to implement an automated Truck Appointment System (TAS). The system, which went live at the end of September, marks a major step forward in optimising terminal operations, reducing truck turnaround times, and enabling smoother container pick-ups and deliveries at India’s busiest container port.

“This TAS not only helps us bring higher predictability into gate operations but also allows container freight stations and transporters to better utilise their assets. The enhanced visibility will go a long way towards increasing reliability and flexibility for the entire port ecosystem, while addressing traffic fluctuations between peak and lean periods,” said Kumar Divya, Chief Commercial Officer, Gateway Terminals India.
The new TAS regulates truck arrivals through a time-slotting mechanism, effectively managing peak hours and minimising congestion at JNPA Port. Under the automated process, truckers select an available time slot to enter the terminal, ensuring a steady, predictable flow of cargo traffic and enhancing overall port efficiency.
By introducing this technology-driven solution, Gateway Terminals India continues to strengthen its position as a leader in container terminal digitalisation and logistics innovation within India’s maritime sector.
