Cranes will allow SSA's Terminal 18 to handle the biggest ships in the world

“SSA is making Terminal 18 big-ship ready for the next generation of ocean-going vessels,” said Port Commission President Gael Tarleton.  “This is the kind of investment that will help the region’s companies create 100,000 family-wage jobs over the next 25 years as they compete in a global economy.”

As some of the largest container handling cranes in the world, they are 267 feet high, and can extend out to handle the new Triple E Class vessels, which can carry up to 18,000 TEU (20-foot equivalent units) with a width of 210 feet, or 24 containers.

Last year, the Port of Seattle harbor handled over two million TEUs, contributing to over 100,000 family wage jobs for the local economy.
