As the Canary Islands’ leading terminal operator, OPCSA plays a vital role in moving regional and international trade through the Port of Las Palmas. The company’s latest order for RTGs builds on its 2022 investment in six hybrid Konecranes RTGs, reaffirming a commitment to eco-efficient and high-performance operations.
The eight new cranes will be equipped with hybrid drives that significantly reduce fuel consumption and emissions compared to conventional diesel RTGs. They will also be equipped with the Konecranes Smart Features Truck Lift Prevention and Auto-Steering. They will have fire suppression systems for the electrical rooms, hybrid battery packs and hybrid gensets, contributing to safer and more reliable yard operations.
“We’re continuing our journey to modernise and decarbonise our terminal operations, with Konecranes as our trusted partner in that process due to their exceptional hybrid drive technology and established reliability,” says Javier Zurita RamĂrez, Project Manager at OPCSA.
“When a customer makes a new order, it means our equipment is doing its job and the partnership is strong. We’ve listened closely to OPCSA over the years and delivered cranes that meet their evolving needs. This is a model we’re ready to replicate with other terminals aiming for the same balance of performance and sustainability,” says Darryn Scheepers, EMEA Sales Director, Port Solutions, Konecranes.
This contract is part of Ecolifting, Konecranes’ vision to increase its handprint – meaning the beneficial environmental impact that can be achieved with our product and service portfolio – while reducing customers’ carbon footprints. From eco-optimising diesel drives to hybridisation and fully electrified fleets, we will continue to do more with less.
A strong focus on customers and commitment to business growth and continuous improvement make Konecranes a material handling industry leader. This is underpinned by investments in digitalisation and technology, plus our work to make material flows more efficient with solutions that decarbonise the economy and advance circularity and safety.
