Meanwhile, the Port of Tauranga on New Zealand’s North Island has recently taken possession of a new Liebherr super post panamax ship to shore crane and three new Liebherr straddle carriers. The cranes took centre stage in a ceremony to celebrate the opening of a 170 m new wharf extension in Tauranga’s Sulphur Point Wharf.
Speaking at the Ceremony, New Zealand‘s Prime Minister, Mr John Key, said that the efficiencies that the current investments in new cranes, straddle carriers and a dredging programme will deliver, make Tauranga a port of the future. The Port of Tauranga will continue to expand with the arrival of a seventh Liebherr ship to shore crane early in 2014. This crane will bring to nine the number of Liebherr STS cranes on the North Island, includiing the two cranes located at Centreport, Wellington.
The cranes join a fleet of 20 Liebherr mobile harbour cranes in operation across New Zealand and Australia, giving Liebherr an extensive presence right across the region.
