This new phase of works foresees the expansion of over 1.100 square meters that will include the building of a passenger waiting lounge with 564 seats, an office for customs and immigration, boarding area and other passengers and crew members supporting facilities. Investments in passengers check-in equipments such as x-ray screening machines and metal detectors will be made on the basis of the sensible increase in South American cruise ship routes recorded in recent years. The 2009/2010 cruise season has wrapped up another record of 41 calls bringing ashore an impressive 45.500 visitors. Itajaí Port Authority expectation is that the 2011/2012 cruise season will once again set a new record especially now that the city will be hosting the great Volvo Ocean Race 2011-2012, the world’s most important sailing competition.
