Consortium wins USD 233 million claim in Panama Canal dispute

In a statement issued by the consortium, which also includes Italian construction builder Salini Impregilo, Belgium-based dredging contractor Jan de Nul and Panama’s CUSA, it states that a resolution panel had also ruled that the group had another six months to finish a project for the lock system.

The consortium has filed a series of claims totaling some USD 2.3 billion over the dispute that halted work early last year on the expansion to allow larger vessels to pass through the new widened and deepened Panama canal.

The lawsuit was for a USD 463 million claim by the consortium related to cement quality.

In a statement issued by the government-run Panama Canal Authority it said that it was still deciding whether to appeal.
