Cargotec delivers its first Zero Emission(TM) RTGs to Asia

The machines boast major environmental and economical advantages, such as no local emissions, low operating costs and reduced maintenance. All of the cranes operate at Cat Lai Terminal in Ho Chi Minh City.

The 6+1 wide and 1-over-5 high machines were commissioned ahead of schedule by on-site Cargotec technicians. SNP’s cranes receive power through cable reel, and they are the first Kalmar Zero Emission(TM) RTGs operating in Asia.

“The handover process went smoothly and SNP is very pleased with the performance of the machines. They appreciate the flexibility in running the cranes with shore or power supply, and the innovative on-screen controls systems ensure their safe and efficient operation,” says Henry Tan, Cargotec’s Director of Industrial & Terminal Business in South & South East Asia.

SNP is Vietnam’s largest container terminal operator. The company handles 80 percent of the import/export volumes in the Ho Chi Minh City area and nearly 50 percent nationwide. In 2009, SNP handled 2.4 million TEU, a 20 percent increase on the 2 million TEU it handled in 2008.

Zero emission RTG pioneer

The Kalmar Zero Emission(TM) E-One2 RTG is Cargotec’s most environmentally friendly model. Not only do the machines receive mains power, but they regenerate energy when lowering loads, supplying the power back to the network so that they customer only pays for the actual energy it consumes. Also helping to reduce costs, the Zero Emission(TM) cranes feature the industry’s longest maintenance interval because the power unit can be eliminated, further enhancing uptime and keeping the terminal environment clean with no risk of oil leakages.

Cargotec delivered its first – and the world’s first – zero emission RTGs to the Port of Oslo in 2002.
