This order demonstrates customer confidence in the Terex program to achieve compliance with the new standards which have been effective since 01.01.2011 in Europe and the US.
Compliance comes as the result of a multi-year program across the company. Since Terex is not in the engine manufacturing business, it has been able to follow a flexible strategy that leverages its relationships with the world’s premier engine suppliers. Terex thoroughly analyzes all available options for each specific product line to determine the solution that suits the customer’s application needs best.
For its Straddle Carrier range, after careful evaluation, Terex Port Equipment chose Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology to meet the new exhaust emissions requirements. In addition to meeting the new standards, the following benefits come along with this new powertrain:
– lower fuel consumption
less cooling power demand
less maintenance
no need for ultra low sulphur fuel etc.
Other advantages, such as the long engine maintenance interval and the renowned reliability of the Terex® Straddle Carriers, remain unchanged.
To prove the effectiveness of the technology in the application, a demonstrator Straddle Carrier was equipped with the newly designed powertrain and placed into operation in a major port in Europe since the beginning of September 2010. The unit, a Terex® Noell SC634E, has not only achieved, but even exceeded expectations. It has run trouble free from the very first hour in operation. In addition to the new powertrain, the demonstrator unit is equipped with several additional features: A Terex® EcoCap hybrid energy storage package as well as a newly developed permanent oil condition monitoring feature which is integrated into the control system to allow for real condition based maintenance scheduling.
Based on several thousand hours of reliable operation, Terex considers this NoellSC634E Straddle Carrier model to be currently the only one in the market having demonstrated over several thousands of operating hours, a reliable and effective solution for meeting Stage IIIB / Tier 4i requirements.
Terex® Noell SC634E and SC644E Straddle Carriers, compliant with the new exhaust emission legislation through this tried and tested technology, are available today for any new delivery.
