New product line from TPS completes the portfolio for horizontal transport in ports and terminals

The terminal tractors with diesel-mechanical drive have been developed based on the machines taken over from the Italian manufacturer CVS Ferrari S.R.L. in the spring, and will be manufactured at the Italian site of TPS in Lentigione. With the cost-effective, easy-to-maintain and ergonomic vehicles, TPS is completing its product portfolio for horizontal transport in ports and terminals.
Three variants, one of them for RoRo operations TPS is marketing the Terex terminal tractors under the name Transace™ and, with this product line, is thus also continuing the name concept successfully established with reach stackers (Liftace™) and empty container handlers (Stackace™). Customers have the choice between the Terex TransaceTM YF 230 with fixed fifth-wheel coupling and the Terex TransaceTM YL 230 with liftable fifth-wheel coupling. Both vehicle variants offer engines with a power output of up to 172 kW; two of the four wheels are driven. Thanks to its liftable fifth-wheel coupling, the Transace YL 230 can pull different trailers and is therefore also suitable for intermodal transport.

The Terex TransaceTM RL 270, which also has a liftable fifth-wheel coupling, is equipped for RoRo operations. With engine powers of up to 194 kW and a Gross Combination Weight (GCW – total weight of tractor, trailer and load) of up to 150 t, the terminal tractor driven over all four wheels can pull heavy loads and therefore also be used in industrial environments.
High availability, well-equipped standard version Like the Liftace reach stackers and Stackace empty container handlers introduced in spring 2015, the new Transace terminal tractors also satisfy the highest requirements. The good accessibility of all maintenance points provides high availability; low fuel consumption and low wear increase the cost-effectiveness. The standard versions are very well equipped and include low-vibration cabs with air-suspended seats and an adjustable steering column. Many optional features, such as LED lights, reversing sensors and cameras, further increase working convenience.
Successful combination of concept from CVS Ferrari and technology from TPS TPS has opted for technology from leading manufacturers for the engines, which comply with the emission standards EPA Tier 3 and 4f (EU Stage IIIA and IV), and for the gearboxes. Enrico Nizzoli, Engineering at TPS at the Lentigione site: “We used the proven concept from CVS Ferrari as the basis for the development of our terminal tractors. Here, we integrated our expertise with full and empty container handlers and heavy-load forklift trucks, as well as high-quality components from proven vendors. In this way, we quickly created a solution based on the needs of our customers worldwide.”
Series production to start in fall 2016 The first Terex Transace terminal tractors should leave the factory in Italy in October 2016. Cristiano Giacomello, site manager in Lentigione: “The transfer of all required documents and the required inventories from CVS Ferrari is completely on schedule. Here in Lentigione, we also have excellent general conditions to establish manufacturing of the new product line. We therefore intend to start series production this fall.”
