Siport21 involved in evaluating the access conditions of the largest vessel calling at TCBUEN Container Terminal in Colombia

This allowed the access at the facilities of the “Maersk Edinburgh” vessel last December, being the largest vessel that ever called in Colombian ports.

These studies, developed in collaboration with Terminal technical staff, Harbour Masters, Tug Masters and Maersk Line Shipping Company consisted of analysing a new manoeuvring strategy to search alternatives in order to allow the access of New Panamax vessels (367 metres in length).

After all, an innovative new access strategy was defined. It consists of navigating steering astern two miles along the channel after swinging in the outer channel. This manoeuvre has never been developed before in this port, even if it is frequent in other ports, such as Bahia Blanca (Argentina) or Hamburg (Germany).

Later, the company carried out several training programs in order to obtain a detailed knowledge of this type of vessels and the new manoeuvre to improve the safety. The success of this project was confirmed with the access of “Maersk Edinburgh” at the Terminal.
