Expansion of PortShuttle Rotterdam with the GVT Group of Logistics

Now, an additional service will be added six times a week, with connections to Tilburg and Eindhoven.

PortShuttle has been in operation since September 2015, and is responsible for the exchange of containers between the various deep-sea terminals. “This year, volumes were slightly lower than expected, partly due to the start-up problems at the new terminals,” said Eric van Wijngaarden, CEO of initiator De Boom Groep. “With the entry of the GVT Group of Logistics and the additional number of trips, we have managed to achieve a viable concept, and we will in any case be in business throughout 2017.”

“We want to be able to complement the deep-sea services even better,” Director Wil Versteijnen adds. “This rail connection allows us to offer the speed and reliability that transportation by trucks lack due to the road congestion on the A15-A16. Our expectations are high.”

“The PortShuttle is a service that genuinely adds value for the port of Rotterdam,” said Matthijs van Doorn, Logistics manager of the Port of Rotterdam Authority. “Increased ease in the exchange of containers, strengthening of the rail product and a nice sustainable solution for the port.”
