These terminals offer direct connections to 9 Chinese ports as well as to Vietnam, Malaysia and the Middle East. Short-sea services include Gothenburg, Bilbao, St Petersburg, many Baltic ports and the UK.
Recently, UASC (United Arab Shipping Company) has added Zeebrugge to its global network. With strong roots in the Middle East and the Gulf, UASC now offers another excellent connection between Zeebrugge and the Far East. It is ideal for exports from Germany, Belgium or France to South and Central China. In only 19 days, the AEC8 loop reaches Port Klang whilst to Shanghai it takes only 26 days.
UASC decided to call Zeebrugge with its largest vessel ever, the UMM Salal, with a capacity of 13,100 TEU. “Zeebrugge is the ideal hub for such large vessels” said Mr Joachim Coens, President of the Zeebrugge Port Authority MBZ, during the maiden call on 10 June 2011. “Today, 4 carriers trust us with their over-13k TEU ships. This places Zeebrugge in the top league of European ports”. PSA handles 3 of these carriers at its terminal Container Handling Zeebrugge (CHZ).
