DP World orders four Kalmar E-One2 RTGs

0

Cargotec will supply DP World with four of its eight-wheeled, all-electric Kalmar E-One2 RTGs featuring load capacities of 41 tonnes and the ability to stack containers 8+1 wide and 1-over-5 high. The new machines will boast a top of the range specification, with DP World selecting fuel efficient variable speed generator (VSG) engines, as well as Cargotec’s UniQ diagnostics tools and its automatic steering and container position verification system, Smartrail.

The agreement follows the positive experience gained by DP World in Sydney upon the delivery and operation of three Kalmar RTGs in 2006. DP World operates terminals in Brisbane, Adelaide, Fremantle and Melbourne as well as Sydney and is a dominant terminal operator in the Australian container handling market. The investment fund Citi Infrastructure Partners (CIP) recently entered into a strategic partnership with the Dubai-based global container terminal operator, taking a 75 percent stake in the DP World Australia group. DP World will continue to retain a 25% stake in the Australian business and will manage the five container terminals under a long-term deal.

New rail connection between Le Havre and Chalon-sur-Saône

Whether road or rail connections, the quality of inland services is essential for the attractiveness of a port such as Le Havre which is sized to handle 6 million TEU annually. After the opening of the rail junction in La Brèque in December 2010, and then the launch of a new rail service between Le Havre and Ludwigshafen in January 2011, the new service illustrates the dynamic growth phase of the port of Le Havre as regards the development of multi-modal transport services. This dynamic move will continue in 2013 with the coming-on-stream of the new Multimodal Terminal.

First unmanned STS crane for Manzanillo

0

The unmanned STS crane was realised as a logical step in ABB’s extensive range of automation solutions for both STS and stacking cranes. This is an excellent example of how one market segment can benefit from progress made in another segment. The unmanned operation was one important step in a series of development projects targeting STS crane productivity, energy efficiency and driver ergonomics.

Instead of sitting in the cabin attached to the trolley, the crane operator supervises the operation from a remote control station similar to that used for Automatic Stacking Cranes (ASC). For the operator, this means a greatly improved working environment without any stress imposed on his back.
