Kalmar introduces a new range of light forklifts to help customers improve productivity and save fuel

0

Kalmar’s light forklifts have a strong worldwide reputation for performance and adaptability, with 87% of existing customers saying they would repurchase. All models in the new range feature the state-of-the-art EGO cabin for excellent 3600 visibility as well as an optional reverse camera for an even clearer rear view. Along with climate control, ergonomic features make the EGO cabin a safe and comfortable working environment that can be customised to each driver’s needs.

The new forklifts also have an optimised drive train, hydraulic system, and electrical system that improve productivity by 10% compared to the previous generation – meaning operators will be able to perform on average 100 more lifts per week. Compatibility with Kalmar SmartFleet, a powerful equipment monitoring and optimisation tool that makes it easy to analyse performance data, helps to further improve efficiency and productivity.

To help customers save costs and meet their environmental targets, the DCG50-90 range uses AGCO 44AWF Stage 4 engines to reduce fuel consumption by 15% and NOx emissions by 89% when compared to Stage 3 engines. The forklifts are available with five to nine ton capacity.

Peter Ivarsson, Director, Forklift Trucks at Kalmar, says: “We’re proud to introduce the new range of industrial diesel forklifts. These machines are highly customisable to a range of operations and are all designed specifically to help our customers do more work in less time – which should ultimately translate into larger revenues and higher productivity.”

Port of New Orleans hosts Cuban Maritime Delegation

0

The delegation began the day by presenting an overview of the Cuban economy, trade activity, the Mariel Container Terminal and opportunities within the Mariel Special Economic Development Zone. A Louisiana business roundtable followed with representatives from manufacturers, shippers and logistics providers and a harbor tour of the Port of New Orleans. The delegation’s agenda concluded with a meeting with New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu and dinner with Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Don Pierson and officials from the five deep-water ports located on the Lower Mississippi River.

“It is an honor to host this delegation,” said Brandy Christian, President and CEO of the Port of New Orleans. “This was a great opportunity to show the delegation the infrastructure and opportunities we touted during our trip. Also, we gained valuable insight into maritime and transportation plans in Cuba and determined actionable items to the memorandum of understanding signed with the Cuban government last fall.”

Pierson said the delegation’s visit underscores the importance of trade between Louisiana and Cuba.

“We’re very pleased that Cuba’s leading trade ambassadors are visiting Louisiana so soon after our business development mission there in October,” Pierson said. “This speaks to the importance of the trip we made in October, supported by the prior trade mission by Louisiana Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry Mike Strain last summer, and these meetings include a number of Louisiana economic development allies. We have an unmatched port system here in Louisiana, and the leaders of those ports continue to prioritize trade with Cuba on many fronts.

This Louisiana inbound trade and business development mission allows for a detailed presentation by the Cuban leaders and a robust discussion between the Cuban delegation and our Louisiana contingent of economic development professionals, port and business leaders. We think these conversations will be very productive and will lead to opening doors that will boost trade between our two economies in the future. We’ll also continue to cultivate stronger personal relationships with members of the Cuban delegation, promoting the open communications and building the trust required for significant commercial interaction.”

The Cuban delegation included: René Rolando Fernández Lara, Director of Inland Waterway and Sea Transport, Ministry of Transport; Ana Teresa Igarza, General Director, Office of Mariel Special Development Zone; Eradis Gonzá Pe?a, President of Almacenes Universales SA; Leonardo Sosa Barrios, Assistant Director, Mariel Container Terminal; Tania Vazquez, Senior Official, Ministry of Foreign Trade and Investment; Joel Lago Oliva, First Secretary, Embassy of Cuba in Washington D.C.; and Ernesto Vi?as Betancourt, Advisor to the Deputy Minister of Transportation.

The frequency of the first-of-its-kind service will be weekly and will connect the Gujarat port of Kandla directly with Jebel Ali in Dubai, and Dammam and Jubail in Saudi Arabia.
Commenting on the launch of the new service, Milaha’s President and CEO Mr. Abdulrahman Essa Al-Mannai said: “After our successful entry into the Indian market in March 2015 with the launch of the first direct service between Qatar and India, we have been exploring various options to further enhance our presence in the country. After careful evaluation of trade patterns and feedback from our very supportive customers and partners, we decided to launch this service especially since a large proportion of agricultural produce cargo to Dammam is exported through the ports in Gujarat. We are proud to be part of this historic moment which will certainly bolster trade ties between the Gulf region as a whole and India, as well as further broaden our feeder network within the Gulf and the Indian Subcontinent.”
The service, named KDX (Kandla Dammam Express), will provide rice exporters in North India with a cost effective solution for their supply chain as KICT will provide a direct train link between Northern India’s inland container depots and the container terminal. At the other end, petrochemicals exporters in Jubail will have the advantage of a direct service to Kandla, and the convenience of connecting through to any North Indian inland container depots from Kandla.
The weekly service will be operated with 2 vessels and will have the following rotation with a 14-day round-trip: Kandla – Jebel Ali – Dammam – Jubail – Jebel Ali – Kandla. The first vessel call of this service will be M.V Oshairij on 4th February 2017 from Kandla.
Milaha is represented by M/S Poseidon Shipping Agency Pvt. Ltd. In India.
