The customers of Konecranes and the former MHPS will benefit from this in many ways.

Konecranes and MHPS, known for their state-of-the-art equipment and services, are building a new technology-focused company. As a combined company we will have more resources for R&D, introduce new products and engineering solutions, and further enhance our service offering.

Konecranes and MHPS have a long, rich history and a similar culture. Engineering, knowledge of material handling, global business and a drive for technology leadership lie at the heart of both organizations. Our combined entity will have a truly global presence with 18,000 employees in over 50 countries.
Konecranes now has three Business Areas: Service, Industrial Equipment and Port Solutions. Port Solutions is headed by Mr. Mika Mahlberg, Executive Vice President, based in Finland.

Our expanded product portfolio for port customers is the widest and deepest in the industry. It now includes Konecranes Gottwald Mobile Harbor Cranes, Konecranes Noell STS and RTG cranes, horizontal transport for container terminals, and Konecranes Liftace Lift Trucks. Our port service strength has also grown, with a greater geographical reach and wider skill-set.
Automation technology is one of our key focus areas. Here our offering covers Automated Stacking Cranes (ARMGs and ARTGs), Automated Straddle Carriers, Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) and Lift AGVs for automated container handling. Our software and process knowledge is the widest and deepest in the industry, bringing the best out of the customer’s terminal and integrating the container handling fleet, manual or automated, seamlessly in the terminal’s operations.

Technology is also a strong focus in our lift truck and mobile harbor crane product lines. We recently introduced eco-efficient, hybrid reach stackers and connectivity that makes our Lift Trucks smarter, giving customers real-time information for improving operations. We have introduced new mobile harbor crane variants to meet changing customer needs, and we continue to fit them with the latest three-phase drive technology for higher productivity and easier maintenance.

Government EU exiting team meets Peel Ports for talk on Brexit

The minister was given a tour of Peel Ports’ new £400million Liverpool2 container terminal which officially opened only last month.

Representing one of the UK’s largest private sector infrastructure projects, Liverpool2 was developed in response to changing trading patterns and shipping industry trends towards the use of ‘mega’ ocean-going container ships.

David Jones, Minister of State for the Department for Exiting the EU, said:
“Liverpool’s famous docks helped the city became one of the great trading hubs of the world and it was great to visit Peel Ports to hear how they are busier than ever.

“We are absolutely committed to making sure that the UK’s ports can continue to compete freely and fairly with the rest of Europe.

“Just as Liverpool used its ports to carve a place for itself on the world stage, Brexit means we can forge a new role for the UK globally as we pass our own laws, negotiate our own trade agreements and be a positive and powerful force for free trade.”

The Port is the country’s biggest transatlantic port (45% market share) and the only major deep-sea container port in the North of the UK.

Graeme Charnock, Chief Financial Officer Peel Ports Group said: “We welcomed the meeting with the minister and enjoyed showing the delegation around our leading edge Liverpool2 container terminal. We are confident that this investment has strengthened the North West’s link to the rest of the world which in turn is hugely beneficial to the UK economy.

“Liverpool2 is a great example of the private and public sectors coming together to deliver transformational change. The major programme of investment announced by the Government in the Autumn Statement can deliver welcome improvements to the UK’s transport infrastructure. This will be key to our investment and growth plans over the next five years and beyond.”

The terminal is creating an estimated 5,000 direct and indirect jobs, stimulating further growth in the North West and helping to rebalance the UK economy. Liverpool currently has around 8% of the container market in the UK however this figure is expected to rise to between 15% and 20%.

The meeting between Peel Ports and DExEU was the latest in a series of discussions ministers have been having with business leaders across the UK’s key economic sectors.

Kalmar to supply seven RTG cranes to Algerian port of Oran

The value of the order is approximately EUR 10 million. The order has been booked into Cargotec’s 2016 fourth quarter order intake and the equipment will be delivered to the customer during the third quarter of 2017.
The Port of Oran Container Terminal (“Port of Oran”) is currently embarking on an ambitious expansion project and the Kalmar E-One² RTGs will provide the terminal with reliable performance, reduced fuel consumption, and an industry-leading maintenance interval of 1,000 hours.

The delivery includes Kalmar SmartPort process automation systems: Kalmar SmartProfile, Kalmar SmartRail and Kalmar SmartFleet. Kalmar SmartProfile uses advanced laser technology to detect collision risks in a stack and automatically stops the trolley when a risk is detected. Combined with Kalmar’s electromechanical anti-sway technology the risk of collisions is minimised. Kalmar SmartRail automated gantry steering system with Container Position Indication (CPI) automatically controls the gantry within centimeter grade accuracy on the travelling path and feeds the container coordinates to the Terminal Operating System (TOS), improving the terminal’s operational efficiency. Kalmar SmartFleet remote monitoring allows the terminal to manage, troubleshoot and analyse the status, productivity and maintenance needs of the equipment.

Mr SAIDI Mabrouk, General Director at GICEP says: “We have been extremely satisfied with Kalmar that is recognised for their reliable equipment and automation solutions that put an emphasis on efficiency and optimisation of equipment productivity. Therefore it was only natural that Kalmar continues to strengthen our operations and support our ambitions to expand.”

Timo Alho, Vice President, Intelligent Crane Solutions at Kalmar, says: “We are happy to see our Kalmar E-One² RTGs with SmartPort to join the most recent order of 25 Kalmar forklift trucks acquired earlier this year by GICEP on behalf of the port companies. We will continue to work closely with GICEP and look forward to our solutions playing a productive part in the future success of the Port of Oran.”

The order includes seven Kalmar E-One2 RTGs, each with a 45-tonne capacity, a six plus one span, and a hoisting height of one over five containers (ISO9’6″ standard).

GICEP is a group that coordinates the purchasing of the equipment necessary for the Algerian Public Ports including container handling activities.
