Drifting tanker rescued by Vietnamese Navy

At the start of the New Year a distress call was issued by the Vietnamese-flagged product tanker MV Petrolimex 11, while it was off the coast of central Vietnam. The product tanker, which was drifting uncontrollably offshore, was rescued by the Vietnamese Navy. High wind conditions made it difficult but the Vietnamese Navy was able to tow the vessel to a safe anchorage.

South Carolina Ports witness 11 per cent dip in container throughput in October

South Carolina Ports Authority (SC Ports) has reported that container throughput in October 2024 was down 11 per cent compared to the same period in 2023. The port handled a total of 209,107 TEUs. The ‘dip’ in throughput was dedicated to a three-day work longshore workers stoppage that occurred at both the East and west Coast.

Biggest-ever quarter for the Port of Los Angeles

In September 2024 the Port of Los Angeles, California, handled a record 954,706 TEUs – up 27% compared to the same period in 2023. It marked the close of the port’s biggest quarter ever, with 2.85 million TEUs processed over the last three months. Nine months into 2024, the Port of Los Angeles is 18 per cent ahead of schedule.

Konecranes delivering largest-ever Automated Horizontal Transport System order to HHLA

Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) will introduce 116 Li-Ion AGVs from Konecranes in a transition to a fully electric Automated Horizontal Transport System at its Container Terminal Burchardkai (CTB). This largest-ever single order for Konecranes Gottwald AGVs, booked in 2022, will support HHLA in becoming more efficient and reaching its goal of carbon neutrality by 2040. Deliveries will continue through 2025 and take HHLA’s total Konecranes AGV fleet size to more than 200 vehicles.
