Kalmar wins large order for 34 reachstackers from European ro-ro operator C.RO Ports SA

The order was booked in Cargotec’s 2016 third quarter order intake. Deliveries are planned to take place between December 2016 and December 2017.

The new Kalmar Gloria reachstackers will replace existing equipment and support C.RO Ports SA’s and CLdN roro SA’s growth plans over the next five years, driven by the need to efficiently handle increasingly larger vessels. The machines join a fleet that already contains 19 Kalmar reachstackers.

Of the 34 Kalmar DRG450 Gloria reachstackers delivered, 19 will be equipped with Kalmar’s K-Motion drive train technology and SmartFleet remote monitoring solution. Kalmar K-Motion increases efficiency and productivity of the terminal by improving reachstacker uptime, ergonomics and safety, while also reducing both fuel consumption and emissions by up to 40% compared to the existing equipment. Kalmar SmartFleet improves operational transparency to the terminal management and reduces downtime through remote equipment monitoring and reporting.

C.RO Ports SA handles trailers, containers, vehicles and general cargo at its terminals, which provide a ro-ro connection between the UK ports of Killingholme and Purfleet and the continental European ports of Zeebrugge, Belgium and Rotterdam, the Netherlands. In addition, CLdN roro SA offers connection from the Continent to the British Isles, Scandinavia and Iberia including ports of Dublin in Ireland, Esbjerg in Denmark, Göteborg in Sweden and Leixoes in Portugal.

BEST signs cooperation agreement with the Port Logistics Activity Zone (ZAL Port)

Construction has commenced on $110m Port Drive Upgrade Project at Port of Brisbane

The project will be delivered by Seymour Whyte Constructions on behalf of PBPL.The planned upgrades will include the duplication of Port Drive, the construction of a four-lane overpass over the Port Drive and Kite Street intersection, upgrades to the Tanker Street/Osprey Drive road network, the duplication of Lucinda Drive Bridge on Fisherman Islands, construction of a separate shared pathway terminating at the truckstop as well as improved and safer access to the Whyte Island boat ramp. Construction is anticipated to complete mid-2018, weather and site conditions permitting.
Port Drive Upgrade
PBPL is delivering a $110 million upgrade to Port Drive and the local road network, delivering safer and more efficient port roads. This upgrade, which is being brought forward well ahead of capacity demand, will help ensure the Port of Brisbane continues to meet the needs of industry and customers as trade grows.
Seymour Whyte Constructions Pty Ltd has been selected as the successful Design Development and Construction contractor and will work with PBPL to deliver the project.
The planned upgrades will include the duplication of Port Drive, the construction of a four-lane overpass over the Port Drive and Kite Street intersection, upgrades to the Tanker Street/Osprey Drive road network as well as the duplication of Lucinda Drive Bridge on Fisherman Islands.
The project will also deliver significant benefits for the port and local community who use port roads, including:
Safer and more direct access to the Whyte Island boat ramp
A separated shared path from the existing Port of Brisbane Motorway cycle path through to Port Gate
Improved access to the Moreton Island ferry terminal.
Early works has begun with construction commencing from mid- September and to be completed in May 2018.
Seymour Whyte and PBPL will keep stakeholders and the local community updated as the project progresses.

Project Scope
Port Drive will be widened to accommodate two lanes each way, including a separation barrier for the full length of the road as an additional safety enhancement.
The construction of a four-lane overpass over the Port Drive and Kite Street intersection, while Kite Street itself will be upgraded to accommodate two lanes in Port Gate.
The Kite Street and Osprey Drive intersection will be upgraded and improvements will be made to the Tanker Street intersection, including a connection to Osprey Drive to facilitate traffic exiting Tanker Street.
The design will include a separated path from Pritchard Street to Port Gate (the Caltex service station), which can be used by cyclists.
During construction, traffic management plans will be in place to ensure the safety of road users and minimise potential disruption.
A Construction Environment Management Plan will also be in place during construction as part of the project.

Mark Frith to take the lead at Grimsby & Immingham

He will start his new role as Port Manager, Grimsby & Immingham on the 10th October and the company has already put plans in place to recruit a successor for Hull and Goole.

“During his time with ABP Mark has built positive relationships with colleagues, customers and stakeholders and I am looking forward to working with him in his new role managing the UK’s busiest port, where his wide-ranging experience will be key to driving growth and continuous improvement to deliver great customer service.”
