Chairman Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem commented: “We are delighted to announce the 25 year extension of the license agreement for DP World Southampton, which is one of the most efficient terminals in the UK and the only deep-sea container terminal on the south coast of England. Also, through full ownership of DP World Southampton, we will now be able to combine with DP World London Gateway, the newest deep-sea container terminal and logistics park at the heart of the UK’s biggest consumer markets, to offer our customers the best possible service, and long term growth, in the UK. A unique and very exciting proposition.”

Mohammed Sharaf, Group CEO, DP World, said: “This news underlines our commitment to the UK and our ongoing presence in developed markets as an important part of our global network. I look forward to the synergies that the two ports will bring to our operations and the contribution they make to the UK economy, infrastructure and local employment.”

ABP Chief Executive James Cooper said: “This isn’t just good news for the port of Southampton but this is good news for the entire city. The deal provides a solid foundation for the continued growth and development of the UK’s most productive container port.”

West Calcasieu Port makes 11.5-acre land purchase

“The additional property will increase port acreage to more than 200 acres,” said Lynn Hohensee, West Calcasieu Port director, “and it will expand the port GIWW waterfront by more than 700 linear feet, which the port will make available for lease to prospective tenants.”

Hohensee noted that the port expansion would not have been possible without the financial assistance via a $750,000 capital outlay grant from the Louisiana State Legislature.

“Most of the credit for procuring the capital outlay grant goes to Sen. John Smith, Sen. Ronnie Johns, Rep. Mike Danahay and the rest of our Southwest Louisiana delegation,” he added. “We believe these elected officials recognize the importance of the port expansion to our regional economic growth.

“With the expansion of our facility footprint, the port’s leadership team is better able to address the region’s growing demand for industrial acreage and waterfront access,” Hohensee explained.

He also emphasized that accommodating additional tenants is not the port’s only priority.

“A portion of the new property will be set aside for construction of a new port entrance road, which will improve port access and ease the amount of industrial traffic traveling through a
nearby residential area,” Hohensee said. “To reach the port’s current entrance, tenants, suppliers and visitors must travel through our nearby residential neighborhood,” he explained. “With a
new entrance road, most of that traffic will be diverted onto port property before reaching the residential area.”

The West Calcasieu Port (www.westcalport.com) offers waterfront property on the GIWW as well as more than 100 of its 213 waterfront access acres available for leased development.

Model 2 belongs to the small crane family of Terex Port Solutions (TPS), which has a variety of types including a rubber-tyred portal crane. This crane type combines the mobility of a conventional mobile harbour crane with the advantages of a portal version, allowing flexibility of use.

The G HRK 2304 rubber-tyred portal harbour crane has a maximum lifting capacity of 80 t, a radius of up to 40 m and a maximum hoist speed of 85 m/min. Kramer will use the crane for fast
handling of full and empty containers on feeder vessels and river barges. André Kramer, President and CEO of Kramer Group, says: “The new crane is tailored precisely to our requirements. We were especially pleased with the cost-effectiveness of the diesel-electric drive system and the rubber-tyred portal with clearance, which makes our terminal operation particularly flexible. We were also impressed by the short delivery time and fast commissioning of the machine.”

Andreas Moeller, Sales Director Mobile Harbour Cranes TPS, explains: “Thanks to the portal solution, the Terex Gottwald Model 2 rubber-tyred portal harbour crane allows traffic flow to continue in the Kramer terminal, even during container handling. Tight turning circles, crab steering and the ability to turn on the spot, make the crane easy to manoeuver, allowing it to be positioned quickly alongside the ship. TPS has specifically developed Model 2 cranes for river and maritime ports with narrow quays. Besides the rubber-tyred portal harbour crane whose portal boasts a clearance width of 9.5 m and a clearance height of 6 m, Model 2 from TPS is also available as a mobile harbour crane, portal harbour crane and floating crane.
