Konecranes subsidiary calls in the police for fraud investigation

0

Konecranes has reported the crime to the police authorities in the relevant countries and is working closely with the authorities to recover its losses and to bring the perpetrators of the fraud to justice.

Konecranes has a crime insurance covering the whole group of companies in which the sum insured is EUR 10 million.

Since the potential losses caused by the fraud are extraordinary costs, which do not affect Konecranes ability to generate operating profit, they will not affect the 2015 financial guidance previously published by Konecranes.

Konecranes hopes that this information shall also help other companies to avoid becoming victims of similar crimes. Having regard to the ongoing police investigations, and to maximise their chances of success, Konecranes will not give further information on the incident at this stage.

Port begins Fiscal 2016 with strong TEU total

In July, the port saw an increase in TEU volume of nine percent, or 18,217 units, when compared with the same month last year. Truck volume grew by six percent and rail volume by 15 percent – the second highest month ever at the port for total rail containers.

“We started fiscal year 2016 with the highest volumes for TEUs, total containers and total rail containers for the month of July in the port’s history,” said John F. Reinhart, CEO and executive director of the Virginia Port Authority. “At our terminals, we are beginning to process the volumes associated with the coming retail season and we anticipate this trend continuing through November. We are focused on continuing to refine our operation, delivering consistent service at the gates and moving forward on the capital spending plan for fiscal year 2016 (July 1, 2015 – June 30, 2016).”

The port started work on the first of those capital projects on July 22, when it hosted US Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx, Gov. Terry N. McAuliffe and Virginia Transportation Secretary Aubrey L. Layne for a ceremonial groundbreaking on the expansion of the North Gate at Norfolk
International Terminals. Foxx and the governor also broke ground on the I-564 Intermodal Connector during the same ceremony. Combined, the projects will increase truck velocity through NIT’s north gate, remove a significant amount of daily truck traffic from Norfolk city streets and provide motor carriers with direct, safe access to Interstate 564.

The port is also executing short and long-term plans to upgrade each of its marine terminals and its inland facilities. Moreover, it is investing in personnel and technology in order to improve service and build capacity for what it expects are continued increases in volume.

Authorities also said they have lost contact with 36 firefighters at the scene and 12 of them have been confirmed as among the dead. They were among more than 1,000 firefighters sent to fight the flames.

Around 520 people have been admitted to hospital, more than 60 seriously injured, the official Xinhua news agency said.

The first explosion, equivalent to three tonnes of TNT, happened at around 11.30pm local time, state broadcaster China Central Television (CCTV) reported.

The explosion, believed to have involved a shipment of explosives, sent huge fireballs into the air and triggered a blast wave that could be felt miles away, CCTV said.

Cargotec's Kalmar receives a major port equipment order from Colombia

The order was booked into Cargotec’s 2015 second quarter order intake, with delivery of all units scheduled to be completed by April 2016. The value
of the order is more than EUR 25 million.

The delivery includes 14 Kalmar E-One2 rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTGs) and six Kalmar
forklift trucks. The new equipment is set to compliment an existing fleet of 26 Kalmar Ottawa terminal tractors.

Mr Victor Julio Gonzalez, General Manager of SPRBun, commented “Our decision to work with
Kalmar once again is due to a number of critical factors. The quality and design of the Kalmar E-One² RTG proved to be commercially very attractive to us, and throughout our long-term relationship Kalmar has always offered us the most efficient solutions as well as spare parts supply. As we continue to grow, the possibility of adding Kalmar process automation in the future will help us to maximize productivity in our terminal.”

Troy Thompson, Vice President, Ports and Terminals, Kalmar Americas, said: “It is particularly satisfying to have gained this major order that clearly underpins the longstanding partnership between SPRBun and Kalmar. We are committed to providing our customer with the best equipment and technology to deliver reliable performance, operational safety and optimum productivity at their terminal.”
