Phoenix Products continues to raise the bar

0

There are numerous optical packages available ranging from wide flood to narrow spot optics to accommodate any application on equipment or throughout a port facility. The EcoMod Series utilises exclusive EcoVent Technology that extends the life of the fixture by allowing heat, water, and debris to flow between the modules.

Furthermore, the fixture offers the many benefits that LED technology brings, including significant maintenance reduction, energy savings, and instant-on lighting to reduce downtime. The EcoMod Series uses up to 70% less energy when compared to equivalent HID floodlights.

The EcoMod Series has been specifically designed for port equipment and was engineered to bring quality, efficient light, and customisable options to each site. The engineering team at Phoenix Products has worked diligently to create a fixture combining the latest technologies and high quality components into a simple, innovative design. This allows Phoenix to maintain their extremely high standards while offering exceptional pricing.

Ryan Hertel, Director of Business Development for Phoenix Products, expresses his excitement to be offering this fixture to port customers. “Phoenix Products has taken two years of feedback from the industry and designed a durable, modular LED floodlight specifically for port equipment. The fixture incorporates the latest technology while balancing the challenges of vibration, corrosion, and moisture intrusion. The EcoMod can be incorporated onto new cranes as well as the retrofit of existing cranes.”

As always, Phoenix utilises the highest quality parts for the EcoMod Series including marine-grade extruded aluminum housing and modules, impact and UV resistant lenses, and fully potted drivers. The fixture also comes with 20 kV of surge protection, a safety cable, and offers options for thru wiring and even customized bolt patterns. The EcoMod Series is designed, engineered, and manufactured in the USA and offers a five year limited warranty.

The EcoMod Series is ETL listed to UL 1598 and 1598A. The fixture is also CE certified and IP66 rated. The EcoMod features a passivated stainless steel harp for added protection against corrosion and has 360° rotation and 10° incremental indexed aiming. There are both 120-277V and 200-480V driver options available and stranded wires for added protection against shock and vibration.

TCV Stevedoring takes delivery of its new RTG

The components of the four RTG cranes arrived in Valencia on Thursday on-board the Medazov Julia, consigned by A Perez y Cia and the project’s 116 pieces, with a total weight of 368 tonnes, and were unloaded on Friday.

The whole process of assembly and “plug & play” will be carried out in an area that has been specially equipped for TCV at the northern end of ??the Muelle de Levante terminal in the Port of Valencia. The work has been planned so as not to interfere in any way with the daily operations of the terminal.

The assembly process will involve the manufacturer’s engineering team, as well as those of the terminal itself.

It is planned to have the four new RTG available for operation by the TCV Stevedoring Company within two months, resulting in increased efficiency of the container terminal.

Bromma reports on a good order intake

Some of the orders received include:
– Orders for 7 STS45 and 37 YSX40E received for Westports, Malaysia
– PTP, Malaysia has placed orders for 23 STS45 and 28 YTS45 separating twin spreaders.
– An order has been received for 10 YSX40E for Kaohsiung, Taiwan
– Patricks, Australia have placed orders for a total of 7 STS45 spreaders
– Order received for 7 STS45 for Saudi Global Ports, Dammam
– 12 STS45 and 10 YSX45E have been ordered for Yilports terminal expansion in Turkey. The ordered spreaders will be in operation in the Gemlik and Gebze terminals.
– 14 STS45 spreaders have been ordered for delivery to Asya Port, Turkey
– The terminal expansion in Ngqura, South Africa proceeds. 6 STS45 and 22 YSX40E spreaders will be delivered this fall
– 6 STS45 and 16 YSX40E spreaders  have been ordered for Bolipuertos La Guaira, Venezuela

The relatively high share of Ship-To-Shore spreaders is explained by an increasing spreader replacement market where terminal operators are considering replacement of spreader purchased 10-15 years ago.

Lars Meurling, Vice President Products & Solutions, also explained that they have seen an increasing interest for container weight verification solutions that does not affect cycle times and the logistic flows in the terminal. As the work by the IMO on verification of container weights prior to loading on to a ship is progressing, the interest for solutions that will not affect cycle times and will not influence the logistic flows in the terminal is increasing. Currently, expectations are that legislation will come into force in 2017 at the latest, and possibly in 2016.

Brommas weight verification system with load sensors mounted on the spreader twistlocks offers such a solution and the interest for this technology is steadily increasing. Large installations with this technology included will soon be coming into operations as the TraPac and London Gateway terminals will start operations.

SC Ports posts highest monthly cargo volume since 2008

The Port of Charleston also exported more containers in July and August compared to the same two months in FY2013, posting exports of 146,497 TEU – an increase of 6.7% year-over-year.

“We are working on a lot of projects and need to continually be in front of our customers,” said SCPA President and CEO Jim Newsome. “Our cargo volumes should continue to be influenced by big ship deployments and increased cooperation by ocean carriers in mega-alliances.”

The ports authority board also elected its officers during the September meeting. Bill Stern was re-elected as Chairman; John Hassell was re-elected as Vice Chairman; Michael Sisk was re-elected as Treasurer; and Willie Jeffries was re-elected as Secretary.

“I appreciate the confidence of the board and look forward to working as Chairman for the next two years,” Stern said. “I’d be remiss if I didn’t compliment our CEO Jim Newsome and our entire staff, which is one of the best teams in the country. We’re in an exciting time for the Authority. Our No. 1 priority is cargo growth, and our harbor deepening, South Carolina Inland Port project and new Navy Base terminal will impact that growth.”

Stern has served as Chairman since November 2009. Since taking over as Chairman, Stern has overseen the Port of Charleston regrow its cargo base by 22% since FY2010. FY2013 container TEUs increased 9% year-over-year and marked the third consecutive year of year-over-year growth.

Local and statewide leaders praised Stern’s r-eelection. “It’s no secret that South Carolina’s ports are a major economic development engine for our state, representing $45 billion in annual economic activity,” said Gov. Nikki Haley. “The growth of our ports means more jobs and their continued growth will help us add to the over 37,000 new jobs and over $9 billion in new investment we have brought to South Carolina. We can be confident that under the continued strong and focused leadership of Bill Stern, Jim Newsome and the Ports Authority board, we will see Charleston deepened to 50 feet, Georgetown revitalized with new life and a port in Jasper approved and built.”

“This is a critical time for our state and our ports as we are moving forward on a number of major initiatives,” said House Speaker Bobby Harrell. “I was pleased to see the SCPA Board re-elect Bill Stern as Board Chairman, a reaffirming decision that supports the progress being made. Bill is a proven leader with a solid track record of success and is just the Ports Authority Chairman our state needs right now.”

“Bill is a tireless leader,” said state Sen. Larry Grooms. “Our state is fortunate to have a businessman like Bill Stern at the helm of one of our most important assets.”
