One millionth truck at Euromax Terminal Rotterdam

0

Combined, these trucks have delivered and collected about 1.3 million containers. This was particularly done for the shipping lines Cosco, “K” Line, Yang Ming and Hanjin, which together form CKYH – The Green Alliance. “The one millionth truck is a milestone to be proud of and confirms the importance of this sector for ECT,” said ECT President Jan Westerhoud. “We are continuing our investments in innovations towards an even more efficient logistics process.” At the Euromax Terminal Rotterdam, truck drivers whose visit has been properly electronically pre-notified by their companies can simply remain in their cabins when entering and leaving the terminal. At the terminal, the unloading and loading next takes place almost fully automated. Only for the last metres between container and chassis does a human briefly take over control from the crane from the office building.

In addition to road transport, about half of all the containers at the Euromax Terminal Rotterdam which are bound for the hinterland and vice versa are moved by rail and inland shipping. Through European Gateway Services, ECT offers highly frequent rail and barge connections between Rotterdam and a rapidly growing network of inland terminals in the European hinterland.

The Euromax Terminal Rotterdam is located in the northwest corner of the Maasvlakte and is one of the most modern and sustainable container terminals in the world. It is operated by ECT in cooperation with CKYH – The Green Alliance. Of all the container terminals in Rotterdam, the Euromax Terminal Rotterdam is situated closest to the port entrance. This, together with its deep-water draft makes the terminal a preferred choice for the world’s mega vessels.

Latin America orders for LHM 600

These results clearly show the popularity of the LHM 600 and also the trend towards larger cranes in Latin America say Liebherr. With a maximum outreach of 58 meters and twin lift capability, the Liebherr Mobile Harbour Crane LHM 600 is capable of servicing vessels up to 19 container rows.

In Latin America the population development of the strongest mobile harbour crane model available in the market is impressive. The first LHM 600 was delivered in 2009, followed by two further deliveries in 2010. In 2011 the number of units supplied rose to three. In 2012, the remarkable number of annual LHM 600 deliveries reached a short-lived record high of 5 units which will be easily topped in 2013.

Ports of Nagoya and Antwerp sign Sister Port Agreement

The agreement expands on the treaty of friendship that was first signed 25 years ago. The formal signing of the renewed twinning agreement was held on 28th August during a ceremony on the construction site for the new Deurganckdocklock, giving access to the left bank of the river Scheldt. This lock will enter operation in 2016 and will be the biggest in the world. The agreement was signed on behalf of Nagoya Port Authority by executive vice president Takayuki Kondo. The signatories for Antwerp Port Authority were port alderman and Port Authority chairman Marc Van Peel and CEO Eddy Bruyninckx. The governor of the province of Antwerp, Mrs Cathy Berx attended the ceremony.

Nagoya is the fourth-largest city in Japan and capital of the prefecture of Aichi, with some 2.3 million inhabitants. The city has also developed into a centre of trade and industry. Important industries include car manufacturing, chemicals, paper and toys. Nagoya is also a major port, with a freight volume of 203 million tonnes in 2012 including 2.7 million TEU of containers.

In the new twinning agreement the Nagoya and Antwerp port authorities emphasise that they will collaborate in projects that further strengthen the links between the two ports, that they will share best practices in port management, and that they will examine ways of further promoting trade between the ports.

The first treaty of friendship between the ports of Antwerp and Nagoya dates from November 1988, 25 years ago. During this period it contributed to good relations between the two ports and the development of sustainable commercial relations between them. The treaty was first renewed in 2002 on the occasion of a visit to Japan by crown prince Philip of Belgium.

Gulfport port restoration moving faster than expected

“The Port of Gulfport’s restoration has been one of the most important tasks I have faced as Governor,” said Governor Bryant said. “Completing this project benefits the coast as well as the rest of the state. I commend the port’s leadership for ensuring the project progresses while yielding the maximum benefit for the taxpayers. Once finished, this investment will greatly benefit the region and state.”

The changes in restoration design and approach resulted from the five directives Governor Bryant set forth in 2012.

He said the Port project must:

– Create the required new jobs
– Deepen Gulfport’s channel
– Maintain current tenants
– Increase the Port’s capacity
– Foster commercial development

The report says final design and construction is underway, and more than USD237 million in design, engineering and construction contracts have been issued in relation to the restoration project. The Port has completed the filling of 84 acres in the Mississippi Sound and is currently developing 50 acres that will provide additional available space for new tenants to use.

“Prospective tenants already recognise what we are about to have here in Gulfport,” said Jonathan Daniels, MSPA executive director. “We are not waiting for the completion of construction. We’re moving forward to recruit investment and jobs.

“Our excellent transportation network, including our ports, is attractive to businesses seeking new locations. The strengthening and developing of the Port of Gulfport will increase capacity, in turn generating new jobs and investment for Mississippi,” said MDA Executive Director Brent Christensen.

Some USD570 million in Community Development Block Grant funds is being utilised to restore the Port following Hurricane Katrina.
