Port Everglades waives tariff charges for relief supplies

0

“We received requests from several ship operators to begin transporting goods to the Bahamas before Hurricane Dorian had even passed the islands,” said Port Everglades Acting Chief Executive & Port Director Glenn Wiltshire.  “The tariff waiver is a direct incentive to ocean carriers and companies supplying construction supplies, food and medicine to help the Bahamian people rebuild.”

Under Port Everglades Tariff Item No. 950, the Port Everglades Chief Executive may waive the port tariff charges for shippers who are transporting donated supplies or resources from governmental or charitable organisations up to USD10,000, unless authorised by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners to exceed that amount. Other reduced fees are outlined in the tariff item for shippers who reduce their transport fees.

“Container exchange per vessel reached 9,915 TEUs, the highest and most efficient level we’ve ever experienced,” said Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka. “Despite the continued decline in exports and high level of uncertainty driven by trade tensions, we continue to optimise our facilities and are grateful for the support and confidence of our supply chain partners.”

July 2019 imports increased 8.7% to 476,438 TEUs compared to the previous year. Exports decreased 4% to 161,340 TEUs while empty containers increased 20.7% to 274,376 TEUs. Combined, July overall volumes were 912,154 TEUs. It was the third busiest month in the port’s history and the fourth time the port eclipsed the 900,000 TEU mark.

Seven months into 2019 overall volumes have increased 6% compared to 2018, when the Port set an all-time cargo record.

A win for Ci5 in French overseas territories

ICM+ and MGI first connected in 2007 when the UMM and MGI met for an initial presentation of AP+. The two companies then officially began working together in 2011 with the arrival of ADSL broadband and the signature of the first contract with AP+. Twelve years later, the Port of Longoni is continuing its transition towards a Smart Port model through this bold partnership with MGI and Ci5.

Ci5/ICM+ will make the Port of Longoni one of the first ports in the Indian Ocean to access the many functions and innovations of Ci5 designed to revolutionise the future of logistics, such as smart containers, the use of big data, blockchain and artificial intelligence. The partnership between MGI and ICM+ will give the Port of Longoni access to a port community single window for goods processing. This will remove the need for multiple, redundant paper declarations, and speed up goods transit through the port, while also reducing CO2 emissions from port and associated activities. The Ci5 Cargo Intelligent System, the world’s leading CCS, will make the port more streamlined, secure and competitive, with improved traceability for an even more efficient supply chain. It is these innovations and the opportunity of deploying Ci5 across the Indian Ocean that convinced ICM+ to extend this partnership.

Norbert Martinez, President of the UMM and ICM+, said: “Nearly 10 years ago, Stéphan Rougy, President of the UMM, signed the initial contract with MGI to deploy AP+ in Mayotte, and I now have the privilege, as President of the UMM and ICM+, to officially agree on the next phase of our partnership with Ci5. Mayotte is lucky to be one of the first French port communities to benefit from Ci5, despite the difficulties facing our companies on a daily basis due to our distance from mainland France. This new phase underscores the vitality of our port community and its economic players, and confirms the mutual trust between our organisations.”

Jaap van den Hoogen, President of the MGI Executive Board, continued: “After deployment in the Pacific Ocean, Ci5 is now being rolled out in the Indian Ocean. We are especially glad to renew and continue this relationship with ICM+ that has been going strong for over ten years. The partnership between our two companies will enable ICM+ to use Ci5 to connect up all port community professionals in order to manage goods more efficiently and extend its activity across the Indian Ocean. With Ci5, the world’s leading CCS, ICM+ confirms its vitality and continues its transition towards a Smart Port model.”

After a period of user training, Ci5 will replace AP+ on 2 December 2019, and will connect up all private and public players in the Longoni port community.

Kalmar RTG technology selected by DP World for Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal

Kalmar and DP World, one of the world’s leading operators of marine and inland terminals, have developed a highly successful partnership over many years of working together. The two companies share a vision of a more eco-efficient and sustainable future for the cargo-handling industry, and Kalmar’s equipment enables successful daily operations at several DP World terminals around the world.

NSICT was India’s first public-private partnership project and is part of the country’s largest port, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), which handles 40% of India’s total maritime trade.

The Kalmar Classic RTG combines the best of diesel and electric technology for fuel savings, low emissions and easy maintenance. At 1,000 hours, it has one of the longest maintenance intervals in the industry, while its modular design makes it easy to tailor to customer requirements. The units delivered to Nhava Sheva will be equipped with a Variable Speed Generator (VSG) which enables even greater fuel economy and lower emissions by automatically optimising RPM according to the required power.

Eduardo Prat, Vice President, Sales, Kalmar Automation Solutions: “We are delighted to announce this order from DP World, a partner with whom we have a long-standing and highly successful relationship. Furthermore, this order is a reflection of the skill and dedication of our local service team in India, whose unparalleled knowledge of RTG technology will ensure that we can continue to provide NSICT with world-class service and support.”
