Freeport Container Port opts for proven green drive technology

0

From May of this year, the straddle carriers will be in operation at the FCP terminal on Grand Bahama Island. They can stack 9’6” high-cube contai ners 1-over-2 and, to enable high handling rates, have lifting capacities of up to 60 t under the spreader coupled with maximum travel speeds of 30 kph. An outstanding feature of the Terex NSC E ECO straddle carrier is its hybrid drive system, consisting of both a diesel-powered generator and electrostatic short-term storage media, which results in significantly reduced fuel consumption and exhaust emissions compared to a traditional drive system.

“For some years, Terex hybrid straddle carriers have proven their worth in everyday cargo handling”, reports Guido Luini, Managing Director of Terex Port Solutions in Würzburg. “The fact that we have received this order from Freeport Container Port for a fleet of machines equipped with this technology is confirmation of the great acceptance for it and, at the same time, of our leading position in this segment of the market.”

Bandar Abbas sees a sharp increase in port calls

Bandar Abbas is the most important port in southern Iran bordering the Persian Gulf. It is also the largest container port in the country which handles more than 85% of container throughput.

A port official was quoted that due to this increase in port calls currently 40% of the existing berth capacity will be allocated for the export of bulk cargo, 20% for discharge of general cargo and 20% for discharge of essential cargo with the remaining percentage for ships carrying imported wheat.

Annual container capacity in the port is more than 4 million TEU and it is planned to increase this to 6 million TEU in the wake of a port development programme.

The 40t.SWL cranes, which will operate at the Short Sea Terminal of London Container Terminal, shall add a significant extra handling capacity and will boost operations for their expected traffic growth in 2014.

These two units will bring the number of PACECO cranes at the Port of Tilbury to ten, six of these being supplied by the licensee PACECO ESPAÑA, S.A. The 13-wide cranes are expected to be in operation in April – May 2014 and will mark a further step in the PACECO’s strategy of strengthening their current presence in the UK.
