Gioia Tauro continues to perform

0

The vessels, the m/v GAIA, m/V RAVENNA and m/V DANIELA are all operated by MSC. The unique port in the Mediterranean is able to offer this type of MEGA operation. Its infrastructure and super post panama equipment make the trans-shipment operations extremely reliable ensuring a competitive ship network for global connections say the port.

The three ULCCs deployed the following draught figures:

MSC Ravenna            12.90 m arrival draught and 14.90 m departure draught

MSC Daniela              15.45 m arrival draught and 14.30 m departure draught

MSC Gaia                   13.55 m arrival draught and 13.65 m departure draught

M/v MSC GAIA made a spot call for the LION service. M/v MSC Ravenna is regularly deployed in the SILK service and M/v MSC DANIELA is used in the DRAGON SERVICE. A fourth ULCC, the M/v ROSA M, may was also sceduled to be berthed, but did not materialise due to changing operational priorities.

Domenico Bagalà, MCT Managing Director, commenting on the operations said  ” …. in Gioia Tauro these challenges are now rather regular, it is somewhat unfortunate that the fourth ULCC did not quite work out at the time, further re-enforcing the availability of the infrastructure to manage large scale trans-shipment activities. We believe we have the proper skills and know-how for many years. This is well known by our clients and with the Gioia Tauro and Calabrian authorities strongly promoting the Economic Special Zone development and the Gioia Tauro role as a gateway for goods destined/originated to/ from South Italian regions, we are ready for increasing challenges. From here in the deep south, we can but raise our voice delivering not only records like this weekend, but underlining that Gioia Tauro port is an excellent world class facility for our country and that transhipment in particular is an added value service generating GDP and enabling our economy to remain linked to the dynamics of growth of all the countries outside Europe.”

Port of Rotterdam on a new course

0

The pay-off ‘Change Your Perspective’ will position Rotterdam as a ground breaking port, in order to emphasise the added value of the port for existing and potential customers worldwide. The new campaign was kicked off by new chairman Steven Lak during the annual dinner of Deltalinqs, the employers’ organisation of the Port of Rotterdam. It is the first time that the Port of Rotterdam will be positioned as a clear brand for the entire port area.

A different way of looking and thinking
Rotterdam is still the largest port in Europe and it will remain so for the coming years. Hans Smits, CEO of the Port of Rotterdam Authority: “We want companies to continue to commit themselves to our port. We already have very good USP’s, such as our location and depth, but to hold on to our leading position, we also need a good story. We have surveyed what makes the Port of Rotterdam unique compared to other ports and looked for something that also generates food for thought. Rotterdam is able to look at industry and logistics in different ways each time. By constantly looking from different perspectives, we get  new insights, create opportunities and achieve results. The most recent example of this, is of course Maasvlakte 2, where we deal with the demand for more space in the port of Rotterdam in an advanced and sustainable way. And we do that together as a port area, as Port of Rotterdam.”

Ground breaking
It is the first time that a positioning and a campaign involves all the companies in the port area. Steven Lak, new Deltalinqs chairman: “The Port of Rotterdam is a world on its own. It’s a figurehead with an international reputation, brimful of stories and innovations happening on a daily  basis. Until now, these innovations and new developments have not been shared enough with the outside world. This is partly anchored in our Rotterdam ‘hands-on’ mentality. I am therefore pleased that there is now a concrete approach to underline the distinctive character of the Port of Rotterdam.”

The campaign revolves around positioning the Port of Rotterdam as a ground breaking port. The focus of attention is on the stories and new developments of all businesses in the port. Also, the campaign aims to stimulate and inspire companies and people, both inside and outside the port area, thus underlining the added value of the port for existing and potential customers around the world. Through the platform www.changeyourperspective.com, people from the port area get a chance to tell their story. Interesting cases are also highlighted and relevant information about the Port of Rotterdam is provided. “Now we can also place people and companies on the pedestal they deserve. Like Ard-Jan Kooren from towage company Kotug for example. He was proclaimed this year’s Port Personality of the Year, because he is seen as an entrepreneur who works in an innovative and sustainable way on an international level. Through this platform, we can now share his vision and enthusiasm with our customers. And there are still many other inspiring people and initiatives that make a difference,” according to Smits.
