0

He will focus particularly on improving port operations in close conjunction with both the Chief Harbour Master responsible for Marine Services and the GM: Infrastructure and Port Planning tasked with driving capital investment and infrastructure developments.

Msagala’s appointment is in keeping with the organisational transformation that TNPA is embarking on to redefine the role of TNPA in terms of the National Ports Act No 12 of 2005 and to deliver on Transnet’s Market Demand Strategy (MDS).

He said his experience at Transnet Freight Rail since 2000 where he eventually rose to the position of General Manager: Resource Management had afforded him the skills, experience and industry knowledge to successfully fulfill the requirements of the position.

“Spending more than a decade at TFR allowed me to develop overall, especially in terms of the development of my leadership skills as well as being a strategic change agent within the organisation “I have been utilised in the establishment and developing of key departments to drive strategic goals of the organisation.

“I hope to put all this knowledge in experience in driving TNPA towards greater efficiency and profitability,” he said.

Msagala holds a diploma in national mechanical engineering from the Mangosuthu University of Technology and is presently studying for a MBA through Mancosa. During his spare time, his sporting interests are tennis, soccer and golf. Tau Morwe, Chief Executive of TNPA said Msagala’s appointment came “after an exhaustive search for a suitable candidate”.

“I am confident that Herbert Msagala’s new role will contribute to the achievement of the MDS whereby Transnet has partnered with government to build an economic infrastructure that will facilitate the movement of goods and reduce the cost of doing business in South Africa.”

IHC Merwede establishes IHC Tidal Energy and acquires Wave Rotor technology

0

The official signing was made by Willem Steenge, Managing Director of IHC Tidal Energy, and Manon Janssen, Managing Director of Ecofys. Wave Rotor technology, which will be managed by the newly established company IHC Tidal Energy, enables IHC Merwede to further secure its position in the renewable market.

With this acquisition, IHC Merwede has secured highly developed knowledge and the patented Wave Rotor technology. In contrast to most tidal turbines, the Wave Rotor is vertically oriented. It converts power from tidal currents and wave motion directly into electricity. The technology isa patented innovation from Ecofys that has been developed over the past ten years and successfully demonstrated in a 30kW pilot plant in the Westerschelde. After the Wave Rotor was developed, it was brought through the pre-commercial stage by OceanMill. The company proved that the technology has enormous potential and is commercially viable. IHC Tidal Energy has set its goal to successfully bring the acquired technology to market, enriching the world with proven tidal and wave energy converters.

IHC Merwede has been active in the renewable energy sector for decades. The market for tidal and wave technology is relatively new, but IHC Merwede foresees a significant growth of activities in Europe, North America and Asia.

APM Terminals chose the site based on its city center location, providing employees, clients and business partners easy access to The Hague’s business district, hotel accommodations, restaurants and cultural activities. Equally important, was the ideal proximity to Central Station and frequent, direct, express train service to Amsterdam Schiphol airport.

APM Terminals CFO Christian Moller Laursen commented  “As a fast-growing, global port operator we wanted to select the best office space, location and work environment for our employees to define our global brand and business ambitions.”

APM Terminals, which became a separate business unit of the Copenhagen-based A.P. Moller-Maersk Group in 2001, is one of the largest port and terminal operating companies in the world with interests in 62 port facilities and a presence in 38 countries on five continents, along with over 150 Inland Services operations in 46 countries.

To give further context to APM Terminals business position in The Netherlands, based on its annual revenue of $4.7 billion in 2011, APM Terminals would rank 19th among the AEX Index companies currently listed on Amsterdam’s Euronext stock exchange. In The Netherlands, APM Terminals has over 100 employees working in The Hague headquarters; 700 employees in APM Terminals Rotterdam Maasvlakte I container terminal; and building the world’s newest, safest, most modern container terminal in Maasvlakte II, scheduled to open in 2014. The company’s Europe regional office is also located in Rotterdam.

Since 2004, APM Terminals world headquarters has been located in The Hague at Anna van Sakensenlaan 71.
