Allan Jones joins International Terminal Solutions Limited

Allan has extensive experience in the Maritime and logistics technology sector, backed up by a successful track record in previous senior roles working with an international base of maritime customers.

“Having worked with Allan on previous high profile projects, we have first-hand experience of his capabilities. His approach and integrity in the way he works with customers is completely in tune with the way we work at ITS and makes him a natural for this important new role” said Richard Lambert, Managing Director, ITS.

In taking up this role Allan comments ” I am joining ITS at an exciting time with the planned release of the next generation of the E-SMART asset management system and  the next generation Truck ID project going into its final stage of site beta testing. The Truck ID project has been developed to provide an industry leading RFID automated truck identification system in terms of both technology and return on investment (ROI)”. Allan went on to say “In previous roles I partnered with ITS in a number of successful customer projects. They were always highly innovative in their approach and great at delivering the goods. I am delighted to be working as a key part of the ITS team and look forward to helping them grow their customer base.”

Allan joins ITS as their preparations are underway to take part in Multimodal and TOC Europe during May and June this year and looks forward to meeting customers at two of the premier events for marine and logistics businesses.

DCT achieves AEO certification

AEO is an international certificate established in 2008 by the European Commission to secure a smooth international trade flow accepted by Customs worldwide. Companies and institutions involved in the international movement of goods, such as importers, exporters, forwarders, ports, airports, terminal operators, etc. which have earned this certificate benefit from Customs simplifications as a result of being reliable partners.

The certification procedure started at the end of 2010 with extensive preparatory works involving all departments in the Company in order to meet with requirements from Customs Authorities as well as other departments from the Ministry of Finance, and concluded with an in-depth external audit.

Jean Jacques Moyson, DCT CCO said “Being now officially certified we are convinced this will be an added value for our Customers to use DCT Gdansk, as they will enjoy Customs simplifications and Security facilitations.”

Official giving ceremony took place Monday 26th March 2012 r. in Customs Office in Gdynia, Poland.

 

 

Konecranes to supply design and components for Goliath Gantry Crane to South Korea

In this project Konecranes is a subcontractor to HSHI, who will construct the crane in South Korea and ship it to the final destination in Brazil for final assembly. The Goliath gantry crane will be used to construct hulls and to move loads in OSX Brasil S.A.’s shipyard in São João da Barra, north of the state of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. With span of 186 meters and lifting capacity of 1,600 tons, the crane will be one of the biggest cranes in the Americas and will allow the assembly of large blocks or modules of offshore vessels.

The new shipyard called OSX Construcão Naval S.A., a subsidiary of OSX Brasil S.A., will be the largest shipyard and offshore construction company in the Americas, with Hyundai Heavy Industries participating with 10 percent and providing technological support to the new company.

HSHI is the world’s fifth largest shipbuilder and a manufacturer of Goliath gantry cranes and other types of cranes. Cooperation between HSHI and Konecranes goes back several years. HSHI’s first technology package order with Konecranes was made in 1995, and this is HSHI’s twelfth order.

“We are very happy that HSHI wanted to continue the long relationship with us. As a result of our cooperation, OSX will get a Goliath crane of the very latest technology,” says Jussi Rautiainen, General Manager, Shipyard Cranes. “During the next coming years, Brazil will be our most important market for shipyard cranes. Each new and happy customer in this region is a great support for us acting on the new crane markets and further developing our regional service network.”

Jay has worked in the ports, shipping and logistics field for over 20 years and brings with him an abundance of knowledge gained from across the entire transport supply chain. He holds an Honours Degree from the University of Leeds as well as being a graduate from the London Business School in the UK.

Jay spent 10 years with Maersk Line working as both Line Manager for 4 major global traders and then as a Managing Director of a Maersk Line Shipping Agency and Logistics business. Jay left Maersk Line in 2007 and moved into the port industry working for Hutchison Port Holdings, where his most recent position was as Chief Representative for the Africa region. Jay’s background will allow him to grow the existing business within the current Gulftainer portfolio and to work on increasing the presence of Gulftainer in business ventures across the globe.

With a strong commercial background and experience in contract negotiations and competitive analysis, Jay has been responsible for setting the strategic direction and targets of organizations, in addition to managing overall performance.

Gulftainer has been able to maintain a strong position in the UAE through its ports at Sharjah and Khorfakkan, and in recent years it has invested in Iraq, Russia and Brazil. This trend is expected to continue and Jay is already working on many opportunities where Gulftainer will bring its experience in pure container management, but also in the development of multipurpose ports into modern functioning facilities.
