Port of Vancouver USA welcomes Queen Asia on her maiden voyage

The Port of Vancouver USA has welcomed the M/V Queen Asia, commanded by Capt Alfredo Coste Jr on her maiden voyage to the United States on October 6, 2011. The M/V Queen Asia is a bulk carrier and is equipped with a Bridge Navigational Watch Alarm System, which monitors bridge activity and provides automatic alerts to the sailing master to avoid marine accidents.

Chinese ports report increase in cargo throughput

According to statistics released by the Ministry of Transport, China's main ports handled a total of 768.8 million tonnes of cargo in August – up 11.2% compared to the same month in 2010. Of the total, 520 million tonnes were handled by coastal ports and the remaining 248.8 million tonnes by inland river ports.

APM Terminals to manage Sweden's largest container terminal

Executives from the Port of Gothenburg and APM Terminals were on today for the concession signing ceremony for Sweden's Skandia Container Terminal. The decision reflects the port's review of APM Terminals' bid submitted on 7 September 2011 to manage the port for the next 25 years. APM Terminals will invest over USD 115 million in the first five years of operation to make the port more competitive as a North Europe freight hub for the Nordic markets. Most of the investment will target infrastructure improvements.
