According to statistics released by the Ministry of Transport, China's main ports handled a total of 768.8 million tonnes of cargo in August – up 11.2% compared to the same month in 2010. Of the total, 520 million tonnes were handled by coastal ports and the remaining 248.8 million tonnes by inland river ports.
