Konecranes’ third RTG delivery to Mexican terminal

In November 2010 Konecranes received an order for three RTG (rubber tired gantry) cranes from Altamira Terminal Portuario (ATP Altamira) in Mexico. When these recently ordered cranes have been delivered, it will be Konecranes' third RTG delivery to ATP Altamira and will have nine Konecranes RTGs in their fleet.

Unrest in Egypt does not affect transits at Suez Canal

Due to the ongoing unrest in urban areas around the country a maritime security alert has been issued for Egypt. The Suez Canal has not been affected and transits are proceeding as normal with no delays or schedule alterations.

Cargotec to acquire US based terminal operator systems provider Navis

Cargotec has entered into an agreement to acquire terminal operator systems (TOS) provider Navis from Zebra Technologies Corporation in the United States. The transaction value is approximately USD 190 million (approximately EUR 140 million). By acquiring the leading TOS provider Navis, Cargotec will further strengthen its ability to provide total solutions for its terminal customers.

Tender – Modernisation of ports in the Philippines

The Philippine Ports Authority’s (PPA) is planning to modernise the ports in the country. Part of their medium term plans PPA is considering to install a new vessel traffic monitoring system (VTMS) and to increase capacity at different ports.

Demag Cranes receives order for Mobile Harbour Crane from Chile

Gottwald Port Technology GmbH (Gottwald), a subsidiary of Demag Cranes AG, has been awarded a contract to supply a G HMK 8410 Mobile Harbour Crane to Puerto Angamos, Mejillones, Chile. The Generation 5 (Model 8) crane will be the largest Gottwald Mobile Harbour Crane for container handling in the Americas.

UK-company QuayQuip comment on the fender market in light of the economic downturn.

The port industry has demanded versatility, something that has proved easier to achieve for small firms than their older, monolithic competitors. This has been borne out as smaller firms have thrived while the 'big names' have been on the wane for several years. Has there been a downturn? Mike Harrison of QuayQuip answers, 'Yes, many large projects have been postponed or cancelled. However other ports are taking advantage of lower construction costs to make long-term investments in their infrastructure.

Cleaner shipping in Gothenburg

Today a further step was taken towards cleaner shipping in Gothenburg. Stena Line will inaugurate a completely new onshore power supply facility for the company's ferries operating between Sweden and Germany. In total, one in three vessels that put into the Port of Gothenburg can now turn off their diesel engines at the quayside and instead use green, onshore power supply.
